David Duchovny is an American actor best known worldwide for playing as Special Agent Fox Mulder, on the award-winning television series The X-Files.

Born and raised in New York City, Duchovny attended Princeton University, received his Masters Degree in English Literature from Yale and was on the road to earning his Ph.D. when he caught the acting bug.

Many inside and outside the film/TV industry first took notice of Duchovny’s talent with his guest spot as Dennis/Denise Bryson, the transvestite detective in David Lynch’s 1990 breakthrough television series Twin Peaks, a role which he reprised on the Showtime reboot. On a Friday night of September 10, 1993, audiences were introduced to Gillian Anderson’s Agent Dana Scully, as she is assigned to work with Duchovny’s Agent Fox Mulder on the X-Files, to debunk his work on the paranormal.

Subsequently, Duchovny emerged to become one of the most highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood. The star of Fox Television’s international monster hit The X-Files, he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, he was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his highly acclaimed and some say risqué appearances on Garry Shandling’s The Larry Sanders Show. In January 1997, David won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series. He has been nominated for a total of three Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild and a Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in a Drama Series.

David added the role of director to his already extensive list of accomplishments when he wrote, directed and starred in three critically acclaimed episodes of The X-Files, titled “The Unnatural”, which starred Jessie Martin; “Hollywood A.D.”, starring Garry Shandling and actress Tea Leoni; and “William”.

Duchovny has appeared in several feature films, including Kalifornia (1993), in which he costarred opposite Brad Pitt, Ivan Reitman’s Evolution (2001), and a memorable cameo in Ben Stiller’s film Zoolander (2001).  
He made his feature directorial debut in 2005 with House of D, which he also wrote and appeared in. The film, which starred Robin Williams and Anton Yelchin, vividly captured the spirit of youth in all its joy and heartbreak.

Duchovny returned to television in 2007, taking on the lead role of Hank Moody, for seven seasons on the Showtime series Californication. Immediately following this, he took on another starring role on the period crime drama Aquarius, Detective Samson Benedictus "Sam" Hodiak.

Of late, Duchovny has ventured into other artistic fields, including writing novels (Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale and Bucky F*cking Dent), as well as releasing two studio albums, Hell or High Water in 2015 and Every Third Thought, released earlier this year.

The X-Files’ 11th season wrapped last week, but Montrealers haven’t seen the last of Mulder and Scully.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will take part in a Q&A at Montreal Comiccon, and will be available for autographs and photo ops on Saturday, July 7.

Other guests announced Tuesday for the three-day convention include Chuck Norris and Danny Trejo. For more details, visit montrealcomiccon.com.

Montreal Comiccon takes place at Palais des congrès from Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 8.

Summer in Montreal is absolutely booming with celebrities. It can actually be kind of ridiculous. It seems that every week there's a new VIP walking the streets of the city.

Now I've never been one to be particularly obsessed with celebrities, but tons of my friends would give their right hand to have dinner with someone from Hollywood. And I mean, I can understand why. Famous people are icons. We look up to them (or do the exact opposite). Either way, it's super exciting that our city is a celebrity hotspot!

This summer is no exception to the rule and you can expect to see a TON of famous people around the block. Who knows, you may be just going out for your morning coffee and end up seeing your idol Anything can happen!

The show also announced the addition of The Truth is Here, a 60-minute special event featuring David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) and Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner). It will be presented at Palais des congrès on July 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale May 30.

Montreal Comiccon celebrates heroic 10th anniversary

Montreal may have been a little late coming to the comic book convention dance, but it’s made up for lost time with incredible growth and expansion over a relatively short time frame. This year, the 10th anniversary of the Montreal Comiccon will take place from July 6 to 8 at the Palais des congrès and, by all account, will likely be the biggest edition so far. “That’s why we went all guns-blazing with the guest list,” says spokesperson and CHOM personality Jason Rockman.

But who’s the top guest this year?

“It’s kind of hard to say because when you look at the guest list it’s really, really packed,” says Rockman. “I’ve got to give it to the programming department this year. They really went all out.”

With David Duchovny, Danny Trejo, Chuck Norris, Jennifer Morrison and Mark Sheppard all slated to make appearances, it certainly seems like Rockman isn’t just talking a big game. On board with the convention since its inception a decade ago, Rockman has gone from simply covering Comiccon to becoming the face of the brand.

“It’s a great gig,” he says. “I wrote a piece on it. It was the first year they had guests. It was the Honky Tonk Man, Lou Ferrigno and Jeremy Bulloch who was Boba Fett. I ended up taking them all out for dinner on Saturday night. It just started from there. As I stated doing more stuff in the media around the city, they asked me how they could get me involved.

“It’s crazy. It’s gone from the first edition where I believe we had under 1,000 people to last year where we had just under 60,000 people. We went from a couple rooms at Place Bonaventure to needing all of Palais des congrès.”

While similar conventions are popular around the world, Rockman thinks that there’s a specific key to the success of Montreal’s Comiccon.

“The reason why we’re so successful is that the organisers really modeled it after some of the bigger shows they had been attending,” he says. “At the same time, though, they wanted to give it more of a personal touch, so it could have that Montreal flavour. I think the reason the guests enjoy coming to Montreal so much is because the audiences are very respectful, and the organisers take really good care of them. If you go to some cons across North America, and even in Europe, the guests aren’t always treated that great. It’s more of a business. The Comiccon team is a relatively small team so there’s a lot of work that goes into putting on an event of this size. I think you feel that there’s a lot of heart in the Montreal show.”

And if you’re still not sure if Comiccon is the event for you, Rockman says that first visit can often be the best. “When you think of Comiccon, there’s so many people that come every year. But at the same time, there’s new people that come every year. The message I try to get across is, ‘If you’ve never been to a Comiccon, you need to come once because it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll be coming back.’

“You can have a really good time no matter what you’re into. If you’re into any kind of pop culture, there’s going to be someone from a TV show or a movie that you watched as a kid, and you’ll have the chance to take a picture with them, get something signed, shake their hand and tell them what they meant to you. That’s a pretty unique opportunity.”
