As a movie lover, I was never into TV series like the The X-Files or Californication. As a music lover, I am so selective of the artists that I listen to, that I have not changed my preferences for 25 years now. However, I do love attending live acts, festivals, theater shows and music concerts, apart from the cultural events I usually document. As I grow older my passion for music shows grows stronger, and I am so picky when it comes to the artists performing live. So, before buying my ticket for David Duchovny’s show in Bucharest, I went online and did my research on his music (I had no idea this actor decided to become a singer) and from the first recorded song that I heard, I was totally delighted with the musical genre that the performer-songwriter chose, then I immediately bought the ticket.

As David Duchovny stated in a video interview, you cannot seduce the audience into liking their music. And this is so true as music is an art that functions in a straight connection with the one that listens to it. So, if you are a successful actor, who won two Golden Globes, it might be hard for you to breakthrough as a credible musician. Apart from the sound, I was charmed by the simplicity of the concept of the Every Third Thought show, so I did not regret for one second from buying that ticket and joined the 900 members of the audience from Radio Hall. I loved how through his singing voice David Duchovny told a story (he is also a novelist) , how raw and relatable he was in-between the songs, talking to the audience members, shaking hands, climbing down stage 3 times, creating this positive vibe that allows you to dream through music. I could tell from his behavior that he enjoys doing music, he is not on stage to show off with his looks or voice, he is there to tell a story filled with emotions. Thanks to this show I was reminded that the benefits of live music are irreplaceable and that hearing the right songs with the right lyrics can really work like a therapy for your soul. All in all, it was really great to discover an artist in a different light, on such a personal role – writing and performing your own songs like Down to the sacred heart, Maybe I can’t, Marble Sun (brought tears to my eyes). Roman coin (whom title he changed into the Romanian coin, just for us, the Romanian audience, so sweet of him).

Bottom line, no matter the age you decide to do it, music is the art that allows a true creator like David Duchovny to express and expand himself reaching out to a wider range of audiences, building a community that enjoyed the songs as well as we did on the night of 10th of February 2019, the third show of the European tour that includes 11 cities. So exciting! Apart from the great music, this show also empowered me with a lot of good thoughts on deep subjects like the purpose of life, the many roles a human needs to play in order to survive, writing the stories, interpreting them or just reading them. Regardless the roads he took, David never lost his enthusiasm for creating and from tonight’s show I could notice how passionate he was about sharing his musical creativity with the audience and the reactions of the Romanian audience were really impressive.
